The recruitment process for prostitution has somewhat evolved in recent years. More and more young men between the ages of 20 and 24 are being hired by traffickers to attract and trap young girls. Traffickers obtain the telephone numbers of their next victim by bribing employees of mobile recharging stores, who easily give up information for just a few hundred rupees. The recruited young man then contacts the girl and befriends her, attracting her to urban centers with promise of employment, marriage or even a visit to a tourist attraction. Once in the city, the girl is trapped and sold in a brothel. These young intermediaries receive about INR 50,000 (USD 720) per deceived victim (Newsclick, October 21, 2017).
